Arts Week 2008

The St James the Great Arts Week

“WYSIWYG ORCHESTRA”! Conducted by Lynn James

Hear ye, hear ye!

Calling all musicians – especially those of the closet variety who performed ages ago (perhaps too many years to remember)!

Have you forsaken your flute, overlooked your oboe, concealed your clarinet, abandoned your bassoon, hidden your horn; ditched your drums; stashed your Stradivarius; banished your brass or lost any other orchestral/band instrument lurking in forgotten places? … maybe you still secretly play your instrument, even with a group somewhere?

Did you play in your youth but now fear your fingers have frozen, your puff is powerless and your rhythm is rusty?

Well fear not – there are many people just like you out there, just waiting to be called … and your chance has come …

Dig it out, dust it off and dare to see if you can still play …

As part of “Arts week” we are asking if you would like to join us and have some fun for an afternoon.  We’ll try (operative word) to perform some famous numbers both popular and classical in easy(ish) arrangements (according to what response we get) and if we

make a reasonable sound we’ll surprise your family and friends (and maybe yourselves too) at the end of the afternoon in a short recital.  No particular “grade” is required, though it would be great if you can still remember roughly how to read the notes. Essential though is the desire to have a go and scrape, tinkle, beat and blow and see what magical sounds we can weave together! All ages welcome.

Sunday June 8th 2-5 p.m. at Dursley Parish Church

(anticipated run through recital at 4.30 p.m.)

entry free, but donations towards costs and refreshments would be appreciated on the day.

Musicians of the area -  we know you are out there … be bold …
be adventurous… be a part of the St James the Great
WYSIWYG Orchestra....you can do it.....you know you can!

Please tel: Lynn James on 01453 548125 or the Parish Office 549280 to express an interest – then we can ensure some parts/transpositions are prepared for you, and you may even feel motivated to do a little practice before the day!  You can just turn up on the day and we’ll do our best to fit you in! (and by the way … as an added bonus you can also view the art work on display and enjoy the superb venue that is your very own Parish Church of St. James the Great in Dursley)
